1) What brand of organizers do you recommend people use that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional?
We love the products from the container store - it's a one stop shop. There are different products for different aesthetics and different styles of home. Some of our favorites are wicker baskets for mudrooms, bamboo organizers for kitchens, acrylic accessories for bathrooms, fabric baskets and clear bins for playrooms... the list goes on! Of course, there are different style organizers to match different home aesthetics as well.
2) How do you recommend keeping a kitchen organized with limited drawer/cabinet space?
If you have limited space you need to edit your items. The best thing to do is keep only what you truly use. You can also find another place to store the items you very rarely use, like holiday specific items. There's also tricks to gain more space! If you are limited on shelf space, you can use risers to add another shelf. If you are limited on drawer space you can use linus bins to organize items and pull them out together on a shelf so it functions more like a drawer. Every kitchen is unique and you can always gain more space through proper organization.
3) When organizing, how do I keep things neat and tidy but also accessible for use?
Organization is about function! Function is the most important aspect of good organization. The most used items need to be the most accessible. A good example of this is winter bins: hats and gloves that get swapped for the summer bin: containing sunscreen and goggles. One goes up higher or moves to a less accessible location when not being used and the other bin takes its place in the more accessible location. Same example works for snow boots and flip flops or snow pants and beach towels. A good organization system makes it easy to maintain accessibility and functionality!
4) What is your favorite room to organize/declutter and why?
We truly love it all! Every home is different, every family is different, everyone's lifestyle and personal items and spaces are different. Organization is so fun because it's like a puzzle and it is dependent on all the factors of the space, the stuff, and the individual. Different people on the team would answer this differently: kitchens, closets, and playrooms are the most common answers. Personally, I love to do whole house organization because then you have the freedom to move things to where they make the most sense. I like to look at houses holistically, which is why I find unpacking move-ins to be the most fun!
5) Moving is stressful, what is the single most important tip to ease the process?
Start early so you have time to declutter and organize your move - And get help! Moving is very stressful, packing and unpacking are only a piece of the moving process. It also takes longer than most people anticipate it will take, so we recommend starting early and soliciting help.
